Boutique Shopping: Breakaway to Highlands Square

Article by Kelly Beluscak

It’s the middle of the week and your two o’clock just canceled because his wife went into labor. This is completely fine with you because it’s the perfect excuse to finally pick up a little “you time,” a little peace and quiet to be alone with your thoughts. Shopping perchance? Your first thought may be the mall (think: harsh light, thumping music, obnoxious fragrance reps, and messy, crowded fitting rooms). We invite you to deviate from mall monotony and escape to the serenity at Highlands Square.

Located in historic Northwest Denver, at the intersection of 32nd Street and Lowell Boulevard, the Highlands Square shopping district is just a quick trip up Speer Boulevard from Downtown. Here you’ll discover a veritable oasis of shopping bliss and the ultimate mid-week, mid-day getaway. For unique boutiques, gourmet stores and gift shops chock full of not seen/can’t-get-anywhere-else-in-Denver items, we recommend a little afternoon hooky at these Highlands Square merchants:

Dragon Fly

This fashionable, woman’s boutique offers beautiful apparel and accessories. An abundant offering includes selective designs by Trina Turk, Wendy Hill, Poleci, Free People and the super hot Single. In addition to upscale clothing, Dragon Fly carries Koibox nail polish with colors like “Caligula: Tossed Caesar. A deep and dark blood red.”

Isabella’s Fine Lingerie

Isabella’sTucked away on Lowell, Isabella’s has a charming atmosphere and extensive collection of lingerie. From sweet and playful sleepwear to sexy and seductive nobody-sleeps/leave-him-speechless-wear, they have your size. Boutique clerks even offer a double check with their free, professional bra-fitting service. Plus they’ve got the biggest selection of Honey Dew Rhumba panties we’ve ever seen, as well as Underglam, Vera Wang, Mary Green, Cosabella, Hanky Panky, Lucy B and Chantelle.

Kismet

KismetThis trendy, little shop is stocked with hand bags, jewelry, accessories and all sorts of savvy bits and bobs. We noticed pretty Marion Mckee shiny things, yummy Latico leather bags, and a huge selection of Angry Little Girls totes, each with a seal of parental disapproval.

Max Clothing Store

You know the Cherry Creek North location; its counterpart is this mid-sized, minimalist boutique. The well-balanced layout is an understated Mecca of fashion-forward finds. Racks of clothing, all sharply organized with grace and style make for a truly Zen shopping experience. With sized stacks of denim including Seven, J Brand and Chip and Pepper, just grab a pile and get that bootylicious groove on. We also noticed that right now they have some killer markdowns.

For a truly pleasant shopping experience full of one of a kind finds, take our advice and check out Highlands Square. And, hey, if all that shopping wears you out, you can always grab a truffle (or two) from Le Chocolatier.
